Pansexual Day of Visibility!

May 24th is pansexual and panromantic day of visibility. 

Commonly confused with bisexual, pansexual means being sexually and/or romantically attracted to people regardless of their sex or gender. Panromantic means specifically being romantically attracted to people regardless of their sex or gender. 

In contrast, bisexuality is attraction to two or more genders usually with more consideration of the differences between them than pansexuality. 

Pansexual and panromantic day of visibility is a day to celebrate those who identify with the terms. Acknowledging the existence of these people is important in order to support and include them and prevent discrimination.

In the past, pansexual people have been oppressed much like the other members of the community. For example, Rita Mae Brown, a novelist and activist was told she could no longer attend her college due to her pansexuality in the 1960s. She described her view as not caring whether she falls in love with black person, white person, man, woman, old or young person and only cared that they had a good heart. 

Unfortunately, occurrences like these are still happening today. Therefore, listening to the voices of pansexual and panromantic people and advocating for them is a great thing to do.
