Non-Binary Awareness week is celebrated every year and in 2026 it is celebrated on the week of the 13th of July until the 19th of July. This is a dedicated week to celebrate, spread awareness and show support of people around the world who identify as non-binary. This started when Katje van Loon wrote a blog calling for an International Non-Binary day on the 14th of July, which is halfway between international men's day and International Women's Day. If you are interested and would like to read more on Katje van Loon’s story, then this is the link: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-62149521
What does identifying as a non-binary mean?

Someone who is non-binary means that they don’t identify with the assigned gender that was given at birth, meaning that they don’t identify as a man or a woman, or may feel that they are a mix of genders or doesn’t feel like any gender.
Many non-binary people use gender neutral pronouns such as they/them, but not all non-binary individuals use those pronouns, others may prefer many other gender-neutral pronouns or prefer neopronouns such as the common ze/zi
r/zirs or xe/xir/xirs.
There are many famous nonbinary people who you may know such as Elliot Page (He/They), Bella Ramsey (They/Them), Demi Lavato (They/She), Sam Smith (They/Them), Brigette Lundy-Paine (They/Them), 2024 Eurovision winner Nemo (They/Them), Johnathan Van Ness (They/She/He), and many more.
So how can we spread awareness?

We can spread awareness by many ways, but the most importantly by respecting non-binary people’s identity which could be by using their pronouns correctly. Don’t assume pronouns, educate yourself and/or others and stand up to non-binary rights.
