Sherborne hosted its 3rd annual Pride event on the 28th June and we were delighted to join them in their celebrations! It was gorgeous weather, amazing performances, and everyone was decked out in rainbows and pride flags!
Not only was this the 3rd pride hosted by Sherborne, the 28th June also falls on the anniversary of the Stonewall Inn Riots. An event viewed by many as the catalyst for the modern LGBT+ movement. It felt significant to host a pride on the 57th anniversary of Stonewall and it really signifies how far we have come and how far we have to go in our fight for equal rights.
We had so much fun at the Space Youth Project stall! We got to speak to over 300 locals to spread the word about the work we do and promoted our local Sherborne LGBT+ youth group. It was also lovely to have people of all ages come talk to us, wanting to learn more about the event and its significance. This included people asking about different identities, what different flags signified, and why pride was so important!
We also have lots of goodies available at our stalls, including SYP t-shirts, tote bags, pins, and handmade products by our young people. We were able to make a whooping £346.60 on the day!
A fantastic pride this year (well done to the organisers) and we can't wait for the 4th one! - Eli, a youth worker
