National Hate Crime Awareness #NationalHCAW
Hate crime is a serious issue that affects people in communities every day. National Hate Crime Awareness is about educating people on what hate crime is, how it affects others, and what we can do to prevent it.

A hate crime is a criminal act motivated by prejudice against someone's race, religion, disability, sexual orientation or transgender identity. Nobody should be treated unfairly or made to feel unsafe because of who they are.
Some important statistics
In England and Wales, according to police records for the year ending March 2025:
* 137,550 hate crimes were recorded by the police.
Around 99,000 were race-related hate crimes.
* Not every hate crime is reported, meaning the real number could be higher.
These statistics show that hate crime is still a serious problem and that more awareness is needed.

How can we help?
We can ensure everyone feels safe by challenging discrimination, reporting any hate crimes we see and also trying to challenge early signs of prejudice we see in everyday life that could escalate to violence.
