What is IDAHOBIT?

The 17th May, marks the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia, a global moment of solidarity and resistance for LGBT+ communities. Also known as IDAHOBIT! This years' theme is "At the heart of democracy," as a reminder that truly democratic societies must be grounded in justice and freedom for all. IDAHOBIT is a shared moment for communities and allies across the world to generate change in ways that reflect local realities and traditions.

We recommend getting involved this year and there's so many ways you can! For example, share on social media information about IDAHOBIT, issue a statement of LGBT+ solidarity and to reject discrimination, review your organisations equality policies and procedures, or show visible support; do you have a flag you can put up? Every act of solidarity and support contributes to a shared goal of equity!

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to check in with ourselves and each other, and to talk more openly about mental health.

Everyone experiences mental health differently. For some, it’s managing ongoing conditions like anxiety or depression. For others, it might be periods of stress, burnout, or just feeling overwhelmed. Whatever it looks like, it matters and no one should feel like they have to deal with it on their own.

While conversations around mental health have become more common, there are still real barriers to getting support. Long waiting times, limited resources, and stigma can all make it harder to reach out. That’s why creating spaces where people feel safe to talk and are listened to is so important.

Mental Health Awareness Month is also a chance to think about what helps you feel well. That might be setting boundaries, taking a break, speaking to someone you trust, or reaching out for professional support. Small steps can make a difference.
