At Weymouth group this week Liz from the friendly food club came along and showed our young people how to make Vegetarian Quorn Taco's and Potato croquettes, all made form scratch including the taco shells! Check out our newsletter for the recipes!

The young people love Liz coming, they learn importance of cooking from scratch and all the benefits such as it is so much cheaper and healthier than buying ready made meals. They learn a new recipe each time Liz comes and different skills whilst preparing the ingredients.

All the young people get involved with preparing the food and then they all sit down and eat together which is another really important part of cooking, and very good for mental health, time away from screens and chatting to friends whilst enjoying yummy food. Then all that is left to do is the washing up which the young people get involved in to!

Thanks to Caps and her team Lou and Rod at Hardy's cottage part of the National Trust our young people were given the opportunity to go to Hardy's cottage to carve pumpkins and press apples for juice.

Caps and the team as always were really welcoming, they started by sitting in woods and carving pumpkins whilst Caps had made a small bonfire for marshmallow toasting later. The pumpkins were then put in the apple store with t-lights for the group of visiting children the following day.

Then the young people got to drink apple juice they had just pressed, and all said it was delicious. They learnt amongst other things that a "Sweet sheep's nose" is the name of an apple used for cider making.

After lunch the young people toasted marshmallows on the bonfire Caps had made and made yummy s'mores from these.

Following the s'mores the young people had a tour of the house and learnt some of its history. The tour finished with some delicious homemade apple cake Lou had baked form the original recipe. Whilst eating the cake, Lou told the young people the workings of the bread oven.

The day was finished off by a woodland walk and Rod providing them all with a poetry readings of Hardy's first poem Dom cilium, a poem by Barnes and a war time song called "When will I get a banana" !

All YP thanked Caps and the team for a wonderful day and made the following comments

It has been lovely my best day out ever.

So very Autumnal

At Dorchester group the young people were getting ready for Halloween by making some "trick or treat" bags to collect their goodies this week!

One of our young people kindly brought in lots of interesting items, such as leaves, to allow the young people to really be inspired by the Autumn season and to make their trick or treat bags very unique.

We have some very artistic young people that attend our Dorchester group as you can see! The police officers that attend the group got fully involved too as well!
