Each year, on the 31st March, we celebrate the International Transgender Day of Visibility. A fantastic day of joy, in which we celebrate trans and non-binary individuals and raise awareness of the discrimination they face. It is also an opportunity to platform positive and realistic representations of trans and non-binary experiences to help combat the misinformation and negative media we often see.
We are living during a time of uncertainty (internationally and locally) around policies, guidance, and healthcare access for the community. There is no shortage of 'debates' in the media around this but they rarely actually include trans and non-binary voices in the very conversation that debates their existence. While it currently seems like two steps forward and one step back, platforming and boosting the visibility of genuine trans and non-binary voices is vital in our fight for equity.

This awareness day allows us to share how beautifully diverse, expansive, and loving our community is and it also highlights the larger issues we are facing so we can call on allies to join the fight for trans and non-binary rights. It gives hope to people far and wide, whether they are out or not, that being unapologetically yourself is a radical act of self-love.
We hope you join Space Youth Project on the 31st March to recognise and celebrate the trans and non-binary people in our lives, and every day after. Whether that is a parent, child, friend, colleague, or neighbour.
