21st May, I am really loving my job as a volunteer at the Jane Cameron National Archives. I’m currently working my way through a series of 6 travel journals from 1915-1925 I found a load of pictures in the 3rd journal showing, sealion, dolphin and taxidermy pictures from 1918 the other day at work, it was fascinating!
With my co-workers I have to measure each picture, read out the subtitle or make a subtitle and then we catalogue it into the archives digital database catalogue so we know what shelf it’s on, what it includes etc. I’ve also been digitally scanning photo albums in the archives and I’ve started naming the files with the catalogue names.
I’m not allowed to take photographs of my workplace, but my name will be credited in the archives website once the albums are put on digitally.
6thh June, I am off to Chile for a sightseeing holiday for a week, we went to Puntas Araenas as a gateway to go to Patagonia because it’s close to the Falklands, it’s only a 2 hour flight and we were worried about the weather and flight delays etc, so we went somewhere close rather than Santiago or somewhere else farther afield. I wanted to go to Patagonia to see pumas, foxes and birds, we’ve seen guanacos and caranchos so far and hopefully tomorrow when we go to Lago grey glacier we can see some more wildlife.
OMG This is the first time I’ve seen trees and fresh fruit for 6 months lol!
9th June, We went with a local guide today on a bus from Puerto Natales and went to: Lake Sarmientos, Lake Pehoe, Milodon cave, Laguna Armaga, Lago grey glacier and some other photo stops along the journey.
It is very busy and very tiring, up early out late, Chile is very strange everyone wakes up around noon and stays up past midnight, so working hours are bizarre.
Something else I find very strange, they don’t use toilet paper in the toilets and they put the loo roll in the bin at hotel but I think you’re supposed to bring your own in public toilets.
We only have a few days left and then its back to the Falkands and back to work.
