Every year LGBTQ+ History month is celebrated in the United States in October however, in the UK it is celebrated all throughout February. It recognizes queer history in many ways as we look back into others stories, it also encourages people to look back on the history behind it and educate themselves on LGBTQ+.
Did you know that LGBTQ+ History Month first came into place in February 2005, which was founded by Sue Sanders and Paul Patrick, they marked the month as the law that prevented promotion of LGBTQ+ (section 28) was abolished in 2003. In the June of 1969, the US police raided the Stonewall Inn, which was a popular gay bar in NYC Greenwich Village. People who were in the bar fought against them, which then led to several days of protests and a year later was the first pride celebration.
It is a time to celebrate the history of LGBTQ+, your history and stories, achievements, remembering the struggles that we can overcome, creating the future, educating and promoting equality all around.
Happy LGBTQ+ History Month!
