Debate Night! šŸ¤–

Our young people decided they wanted to do a debate night at group. They discussed different topics and decided on AI. They were then split into 2 groups, For and Against AI and they had to go away and prepare their arguments ready for the debate at the next group.

At the debate the teams they were given a set amount of time to set out their arguments and then they had to be prepared to be questions on their source and respond to counter arguments. The young people really enjoyed the debate and will be doing it again soon! They have already discussed future topics such as capital punishment and euthanasia.

Debate is a great way for the young people to learn so many skills. They learn how to:

  • Research topics using critical thinking to evaluate arguments

  • How to speak publicly in a safe environment which is great for their confidence

  • Ā How see all perspectives of emotive subjects to help them become better informed, well rounded individuals and how to be adaptable

  • Improves listening skills as you need to be able listen to the other teams argument ready to respond with a counter argument
