At Dorchester group we have been teaching the young people about being environmentally friendly and the importance of recycling and upcycling. Also they learnt upcycling is far most cost effective than buying new.

The young people decided they wanted to make some upcycled jewellery. They got crafting with some old unused / broken costume jewellery and made some lovely new unique and original pieces that you couldn't buy in a shop, that cost pence to make. The young people really enjoyed the evening

On Saturday 23rd August, Space Youth Project members from multiple groups all got

together at Kingston Lacy for an evening of fun activities and team building. The Supernovas

prepared games for everyone to play, and supervised, as well as sometimes joining in, too!

Before the games began, everyone was separated into teams.

We played 5 different games across the evening, each with different challenges and skills

used.

First, we played a game of tug of war, which led to a lot of different tactics, and a lot of

laughter. We then had an egg and spoon race, using massive spoons, and massive eggs,

both of which made the race far more entertaining for both the competitors and the

spectators. Third came archery with a kids’ set, which had plastic arrows with suction cups

on the end, and a lot of people had never really done this before, so it was a new and

exciting challenge, and everyone did really well. The penultimate game was bowls, which led

to some confusion about what exactly ‘bowls’ is, but everyone got the hang of bowling small,

weighted balls the closest to a smaller, white ball pretty quickly, and there was even a tie in

the scoring, which revealed some competitive natures among competitors, but everyone

laughed and had a lot of fun. Finally, we played giant Jenga, a game of great strategic minds

and dextrous removal of wooden blocks (or, you know, grabbing one and hoping the tower

doesn’t fall), which was a quieter activity to finish the games.

After the activities were completed, we all relaxed in the sun, and ate pizza provided by The

Friendly Food Club, which was delicious. The Supernovas then gave out medals for lots of

different awards, and that concluded the evening.

Overall, great fun was had by everyone, and we hope to make the Summer Fun Day an

annual tradition!

At Bournemouth group we are encouraging our young people to learn cooking, healthy eating and budgeting skills.

They have to source recipes, research the most cost effective way to make the recipe and then actually make it.

The young people decided they wanted to make a pasta dish so they looked at the difference between buying a ready made sauce or ready made pasta dish to making their own from scratch.

They worked together to prepare the dish for the whole group and then had to clear up afterwards. Everyone really enjoyed it and said it was much nicer than a ready made meal.
