On Friday 8th August Space Youth Project went to Brownsea island. We met at Poole Quay at 10:30 and took a 30 minute ferry ride. We enjoyed observing the diverse wildlife in Poole harbour.

When we arrived we were greeted by the friendly staff members and given maps of the island. We enjoyed the board walk and stopped at the observation hut to watch the birds on the water. We then walked through the forest and encountered a beautiful peacock and learned about a variety of trees growing on the island.

At around midday we stopped for lunch by a small gift shop and ate our packed lunches. Some of the young people bought souvenirs during lunch and we were all grateful to be able to sit down and chat about the day so far as we had been walking for quite a while. The peacock strutted around the picnic benches as we ate and enjoyed interacting with the young people. After we had all eaten we set off again and followed the path to the ruins of Maryland Village.

After exploring the ruins we sat down in the woods to enjoy the calming scenery for a while. We then took a leisurely walk back across the island towards the ferry. As we got there early we sat outside the café eating ice creams and watching the local wildlife. When the ferry came at 3pm we boarded and enjoyed a quaint trip home all being very content and tired after a fun day of exploring. This day was made possible thanks to the lovely staff at Brownsea Island and our wonderful volunteers at Space Youth Project.

For our most recent T+ Group, we thought we'd take advantage of the summer weather and have a picnic in Kings Park. This has become an annual tradition that allows us to have a potluck picnic and play outdoor games that get young people energised and outside! We also had the opportunity to learn more about our environmental impact and shared ideas on how to be eco-friendly in our daily lives.

At a lot of our groups, we start the session off with an ice breaker to encourage young people to talk to others outside their friendship groups and to help new young people get to know people better. At our session at Bournemouth, we did an icebreaker that allowed our young people to collaborate on drawings - giving young people 30 seconds to draw on a piece of paper before passing it along to the next person so they can add their addition to your work and you would receive someone else's work to also contribute to! It's always a fun ice breaker for our young people!
